Job Summary
The Payroll Team Leader is responsible for leading the payroll team in executing accurate and timely payroll operations. This role focuses on hands-on payroll processing, team coordination, and ensuring compliance with Malaysian statutory requirements, while supporting continuous process improvements.
What You’ll Be Doing
Payroll Operations
Lead and participate in end-to-end payroll processing, including salaries, overtime, bonuses, and deductions, etc.
Ensure payroll is processed accurately and within deadlines.
Perform cash payroll (if needed) and resolve discrepancies
Compliance & Statutory Requirements
Ensure compliance with Malaysian statutory bodies such as EPF, SOCSO, and PCB (income tax)
Prepare and validate statutory submissions and reports
Stay informed on changes in payroll regulations
Reporting & Reconciliation
Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and variance analysis. This includes all reports to be shared with the Finance Team for proper recording.
Assist in audits by providing payroll data and documentation
Maintain accurate payroll records
Process Improvement
Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements in payroll processes
Support system enhancements and payroll-related projects
Employee Support
Handle payroll-related queries from employees
Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information
What You Bring to the Team
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field
Minimum 3–5 years of payroll experience, with some team leadership or senior-level responsibilities
Strong knowledge of Malaysian payroll regulations and statutory requirements
Experience with payroll systems and HRIS
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in shared services or high-volume payroll environment
Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., SAP, Workday, or similar systems)
